The History of Henny Penny

Chester Wagner wants to serve more chicken faster at his Whispering Oak restaurant in Eaton, Ohio. He designs and builds the first commercial pressure fryer and begins cooking with it.

Mr. Wagner launches Henny Penny to sell his invention to other commercial chicken operators.

After a decade of growth, Henny Penny expands its production facilities in Eaton, Ohio.

Jack Cobb, who started working at Henny Penny in 1959 as the fourth employee, purchases the company from Chester Wagner with a partner.

Henny Penny expands its product line to include holding cabinets.

Henny Penny opens its doors to customers in Europe with its first overseas office in Paris, France.

Henny Penny Rotisserie ovens and bun warmers are introduced.

Henny Penny introduces its first open fryer line.

Combi Ovens are introduced into the expanding Henny Penny lineup.

Jack Cobb’s son Steve becomes President and CEO after spending years working alongside employees in all operations and departments across the company.

A new Henny Penny manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China is opened to support growing demands in the Asian market.

Rob Connelly is named Henny Penny’s new President and CEO.

Henny Penny expands, creating a state of the art Training Center inside the Wagner building in the Eaton campus.

The company transitions from family ownership to a trust, through which employees actually share ownership of Henny Penny.

The National Restaurant Association recognizes the Henny Penny Space$aver Team combi with its Kitchen Innovations Award. In fact, over the past 10+ years, Henny Penny has received 7 Kitchen Innovation Awards.

Henny Penny completes construction of the company’s largest expansion project ever, increasing space for additional production, innovation and employee well-being.

Held groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of a major improvement project that will result in a 30,000-square-foot facility dedicated to well-being.

Celebrated the opening of the Henny Penny Five Rivers Campus office space in Downtown Dayton, Ohio.
